PHOENIX WEIGHT ROOM
Coach Vince receiving his Leaders Award in Weightlifting from George Byng
From Greenock Telegraph 11th February 2009 OVER the last two weeks, junior and senior lifters from Inverclyde Ironmasters Club have put up winning performances in Scottish schools, Under-17s and Masters Championships. Four young lifters — Fabio Marturano, 16, Michael Delaney,16, Kieran McFadyen, 16, and John Gallagher,15, — competed for the first time in the Schools Championships at Kilwinning. A fifth lifter, Ross Gallagher, 16, was also scheduled to lift but took a viral infection in the week before the event and could not take part. He was doing a 50 snatch and a 60 clean and jerk in training at 60kg bodyweight. Michael and Fabio took first and second places respectively in the 69kg class Year 11, both easily snatching 45kg, Michael on his third attempt and Fabio on his second. Fabio narrowly missed 50 on his third lift. On the clean and jerk, both again made 55kg comfortably on their second lifts, with Fabio just losing 60 on his third due to a pressout which Michael succeeded with for a new personal best, winning by 105 to Fabio’s 100 total. |
